"All the old lugger people have gone. Some have passed away. Some have sailed away. Some have flown away. But they have left a great legacy, a melting pot of creativity and a sence of pride in this little town that lives on in their decendents. The children of the lugger people are a fascinating group, very private, fiercely independent and often very creative - they are the life-blood of Broome, the hidden stream of good that runs through this town"

Experience a rare opportunity to see Broome through the eyes of a true Kimberley personality whose family has lived and worked in the Famous pearling town for generations. Neville Poelina is a third generation pearlshell diver who followed in the footsteps of his Timorese father to become one of Broome's most acclaimed pearlshell divers before launching an award-winning cultural tourism business that embraces the rich and ancient Aboriginal culture of his mother's Nyikina people.

Share Neville's story. Children of the Lugger People brings it to life in a shared and intimate journey which is as much about participating as learning. Numbers are limited to a maximum of 16 people for each of the three Children of the Lugger People experiences which will be offered from May to September.

Journey to the soul of Broome and discover the melting pot of Aboriginal, Asian and European influences that imbue this special place with its own exotic flavour. Explore Broome's famous sites and live the history of its pearling fleets through Neville's fascinating yarns. Share the pride of the lugger people's legacy that lives on in their descendents - Broome's acclaimed artists, songwriters, authors, playwrights and chefs.

Immerse yourself in the relaxed and intimate ambience of McAlpine House, where your Children of the Lugger People tour begins and ends each day. A sense of Broome's past lingers in this century-old Broome villa, originally built as the home of a Master Pearler and now an award-winning boutique escape with just eight guest rooms.

Savour Broome cuisine - and create your own. Each 3 day journey begins and ends each day with a dining experience under a full Kimberley moon among the lush tropical gardens of McAlpine House. Neville's special style of cuisine is influenced by his time on the luggers and his Aboriginal heritage. He provides the inspiration - and the fresh Kimberley produce - but the cooking, like the journey is shared.
